AhlulBayt News Agency: The government of the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh has demolished at least 20 mosques and Islamic schools within a 15-kilometer radius of the India-Nepal border.
Officials say the actions were taken under Section 67 of the Revenue Act under the pretext of combating illegal construction. Seventeen informal schools were demolished in the Shravasti district and several mosques and schools on government land in Siddharthnagar district.
The move has sparked widespread reactions, especially in Muslim-majority areas.
Observers see it as a systematic attack on religious and educational institutions of the Muslim minority and an attempt to eliminate religious identity in the border areas.
